We are excited to once again be hosting our 3rd Annual Cribbage Tournament in conjunction with Bo Diddley's bar and grill.

When: Saturday, February 25th
Time: starts at 3:00 p.m.
Where: Bo Diddley's, downtown St Cloud
Cost: $25 per person

Details: 16 teams (32 people) complete in a bracket "March Madness" style tournament. Don't have a partner? No worries! We have folks coming solo and can pair you up!

So far, we have completed 4 events. In 2012, we will hit year number 5 and we have a little ways to go to hit the $100,000 mark.

To date, our team has raised approximately $68, 752.

No too bad!

But in order for us to reach the remaining $31, 248, we need your help. Please consider donating to our team over this next year. You can donate through direct donations to a walker or crew members account. You can donate items to our garage sale or online silent auction. You can even sign up to participate in the 3-day (either as a walker or crew member).

Once an Angel, Always an Angel shares our team photos from year to year. We believe that once someone is a part of our team, they will always be a part of our team...regardless of the role they played (walker, crew or volunteer).

Fundraising will be updated on a reoccurring basis sharing with you our team fundraisers that we will do each year. Show Us Your Life--Favorite Charity

The girls of Amy's Angels would love to show you, the readers of Kelly's Korner, a bit about our favorite charity--Susan G Komen for the Cure!

In October 2007, our dear friend Amy was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

She was 33.

In December of 2007, Amy's sister-in-law asked if she could form a 3-day walk team in Amy's honor. The 3-day, is a 60 mile walk where participants raise money for breast cancer education, awareness and research.

By spring of 2008 there were 12 walkers on our first 3-day team. One of those walkers was Amy herself! We are proud to say that because of Amy's medical team, friends, family and faith, Amy is showing "no evidence of disease". Amy had 4 rounds of chemo and 33 rounds of radiation. She was told that just recently, studies show that her type of cancer and size of the tumor only required 4 rounds of chemo, down from 8 rounds that previous cancer fighters had to endure.

It is because of this that our team, our friends and family members are advocates for Susuan G Komen for the Cure. Without that research, education and awareness, Amy may not be where she is today.

Two walks down and over $40,000 later, we are going strong! Our team is geared up for this year for our 3rd walk...and we have no plans to stop!

Plan.

Many teams have tried the online auction as we've created it, and it has been a hit. Others have struggled and were not successful. An online auction is only going to be as successful as you make it.

Have you ever received a fundraising letter or e-mail asking you to donate money to support an organization? The person sending it is taking part of a walk or run or triathlon and needs to raise money to participate?

Are you guilty of getting the letter and saying "Of course I'll donate" only to put it aside and never follow through?

Too often those that we send letters or e-mails to have the best of intentions, but because the walk or run is so far in the future, they think "I'll get to this later."

What we have found is that you have to make multiple attempts.

You're probably thinking, "But I'll be bugging them if I continue to ask." True. But it isn't what you're asking for....it's how you're asking. Why not try a newsletter!

Once An Angel, Always An Angel...

Whether you've participated in every 3-day event since our team was founded, or you are just joining us for one year--you will always be a member of Amy's Angels. Take some time to read about each of us and how we are connected to our team namesake, Amy.

Amy: our namesake. Team member 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. She is still cancer free and showing no evidence of disease. While she is on drug therapy for the next 4 years, Amy remains active in her church, goes on yearly baseball trips, plays on a cribbage league and is still teaching Language Arts to junior high adolescents. Amy said that the Twin Cities 3-day will always be something she'll be attending!

Alison: friend of Amy. Team member in 2008. She walked in 2008 and said that the experience was amazing, and even got the all clear to walk just a few weeks after having foot surgery! Alison wasn't able to join us in 2009, but we are hoping she can be a part in 2010.

Dynessa: friend of Amy through college activities. Team member in 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. Dynessa made a generous donation in 2008 and after the walk, was talked into being on the crew as a Route Safety volunteer. Dynessa has had a number of family members diagnosed with breast cancer is hopeful that the money raised will benefit them as well.

Jennifer: sister in law to Amy. Team member in 2008 & 2009. Jennifer is married to Amy's brother and was interested in being a part of the team since the first e-mail went out to the group. An active mom & wife, Jennifer is able to balance the training schedule along with fundraising to make her minimum goal. If anyone says that don't have time to do this, hasn't met Jennifer!

Angie: friend of Amy and is responsible for fixing up Amy and her husband! Team member in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Amy, Angie and their husbands take a baseball trip each year and it is during that trip that Angie doesn't mind the walking--as it's great training for her! Angie enjoys participating in the walk each year and is hopeful to be a part of it in 2010.

Amanda: friend of Amy as their husbands are best friends. Team member in 2008, 2010 & 2012. Amanda has been a supporter of this idea since the beginning and joins us every other year for the event.

Katie: sister to Amy. Team member in 2008, walker stalker 2009 and 2010. Katie has been nothing but supportive of the efforts of this team, and it was after an informational meeting that Katie decided that this was a wonderful way to get involved. While Katie wasn't able to join us in 2009 due to the birth of her daughter, she was able to come out to the event and cheer on the walkers as they made their way through the event!

Kelley: friend of Amy through college activities. Team member 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. Kelley signed up for the walk after an informational meeting and suddenly had the "oh no, what have I done" feeling. But Kelley trained, and fund raised and was able to walk! In 2009, Kelley joined the crew as a sweep van driver and will be back in 2010 to do it all over again.

Pam M: sister in law of Amy--Pam is Amy's husband's sister. Team member 2008. Pam was our first team captain and paved the way for this team's creation. It was her desire to do something bigger and better, that lit a spark under everyone to be a part. We wouldn't be here without Pam's idea to start a team, and for that, we are grateful!

Rhonda: friend of Amy through church & social activities. Team member 2008 & 2012. Walker stalker in 2009. Rhonda joined our team in 2008 and always came up with amazing ideas for raising money. When she was asked to obtain items for our auction and garage sale, Rhonda not only did that, but went above and beyond the expectation. Even while Rhonda has traveled the globe, she has supported Amy's Angels 100%!

Pam L: friend of Amy--Amy babysat Pam's children when they were young. Team member 2008 , 2009, & 2010. Pam joined the team with much enthusiasm and has been an amazing team member to this team. From encouraging e-mails to funny facebook comments, Pam doesn't let walking 60 miles over 3 days phase her one bit.

Michelle: sister in law of Amy. Team member 2008. Michelle was a trooper during our 3day event. While she received clearance from her doctor to walk, Michelle did have some reoccurring knee issues. But she walked the miles she could with a constant smile on her face and a positive attitude. While she opted not to walk in 2009, it didn't stop Michelle from participating in some team fundraising events!

LoAnn: friend of Amy through work. Team member 2009. LoAnn was recruited by Amy to join her on the crew when it looked at though our tent numbers would be uneven! LoAnn joined the medical crew as a nurse and had an amazing experience. She has decided to come back again next year and hopes to recruit her husband--who also works with Amy!

Angi: Joined Amy's Angels in 2010 to ride in the sweep van with Kelley. Kelley, Dynessa and Angi lived together in the same residence hall in college at UND. It was Angi who actually got Kelley interested in Hall Gov't--and if she didn't participate in hall gov't, she wouldn't have met Amy. So, Angi is really the reason Kelley and Amy met (in a round about sort-of-way). Angi's mom is a breast cancer survivor. This photo, taken at the 3-day shows 2 women who were given a ride back to a pit stop. The walker on the left just finished radiation 2 days before the walk. Think you can't do this walk? Try saying that to someone is walking all 60 miles after completing chemo and radiation!

Debbie: Debbie joined the Amy's Angels team in 2010 when Angie O. asked her to be a part of our team! She has been an active member and joined us in 2011 and will be returning for 2012. Debbie fit right in and we couldn't have asked for a more energetic team member!

Shanta: Joined Amy's Angels in 2010 as a walker and knows Amy through various friends. Shonta is a wonderful addition to our team. From creative ideas, to showing everyone how to tie a scarf, she has been a great asset!

Annette: Annette has been a 3-day participant in the past, but 2011 was her first year with Amy's Angels. Angie O. encouraged Annette to join Amy's Angels and we couldn't have been happier! She has been a strong leader and organizer of many great fundraisers including a quilt raffle and highly successful garage sale! She is a joy to have on the team and we are looking forward to future events with her!

Rachel: Once Annette was on board, her daughter Rachel, became interested in joining the team. Not only did she step up and help out with our various fundraisers, but she had a great time at her first 3-day event. She is already planning fundraisers for the 2012 walk!

Lyndsey: Rachel and Annette also encouraged Lyndsey to join Amy's Angels. With their support, she joined the team and helped us with many great fundraising activities. She also enjoyed her first walk, and before the walk was even complete, she and Rachel were already brainstorming ideas for raising money for 2012!

Online Silent Auction

In 2008, we had many fundraising ideas, including a benefit supper and silent auction.

However, due to timing and planning, that didn't happen. But since we had received some amazing silent auction donations, we had to do something.

Because of our team consists of members throughout the states of Minnesota and North Dakota, we decided to do something different. We decided to do an online silent auction. The benefits of doing an auction online are endless:

No travel
Can be viewed and bid on by anyone in the world
Items can be secured through many different people and companies
We can use the benefits of social media (Facebook, blogs, etc) to promote our auction
Can be done from home--no babysitter or work commitments to worry about.
Those that donate to our cause get free advertising & links taking viewers to their site.

We decided to do our auction through a blog site. The reason was simple: money. We did not want to pay fees and services for sites like eBay or cMarket. The blog set up worked for us and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.

To date, the Amy's Angels Online Auction has raised over $5000 for breast cancer education, research and awareness.

B.R.E.A.S.T Event

Not only does our training for the 3-day heat up in the summer time, but so does our push for fundraising!

2009 was the first year of our annual B.R.E.A.S.T Event, which stands for "Best Relaxing Event of All Summer Time."

Last year, a friend of Amy's Angels allowed us to use her pool for a day full of games, food and fun. We are planning another B.R.E.A.S.T event this summer. Stay tuned to this page of our site for further details.

Garage Sale

Got a bunch of stuff lying around, but you're just not sure what to do with it? Like the idea of donating money to the Breast Cancer 3-day, but your pocketbook is a little tight?

Why not donate your gently used items to our annual Garage Sale?

This is a great way to be involved with our fundraising efforts without taking a hit to your wallet! Our last garage sale made over $1500.

When: Typically the first weekend in May (we run our sale the same weekend as the city wide sale in St Cloud, MN).

Where: St Cloud, MN. Actual house location to be announced closer to the actual sale.

Time: Friday from 8 - 5, Saturday from 8 - 1.

Interested in donating items? We'll take them.

Guidelines for donations

Items should be gently used or like new. New, never used items are also accepted
Items should be clean and ready to use/wear
Items should come with all the necessary pieces and parts

Items that sell really, really, well:

Children's items (baby clothes, toys, accessories, car seats, pack-n-play, etc)
Household items (dishes, pots/pans, kitchen gadgets, counter top appliances that work, microwaves, nick-nacks, etc.)
Tools
Hobby & Craft items (scrapbooking supplies, quilting supplies, etc)
Handbags & purses
Furniture
Athletic equipment

Cribbage Tournament

Many of the Amy's Angels team are avid cribbage players. So, when the idea for a cribbage tournament came to mind for a fundraiser--it was a huge success right from the start.

The tournament is played in teams (don't have a partner? Don't worry! There's always a "spare" who is happy to play!), and done in a bracket style tournament--much like the NCAA Basketball tournaments in March.

Bo Diddley's in downtown St Cloud (216 26th Ave S) has been our host and we are grateful for their support and being such great hosts!

Amy's Angels 3-Day Team Expectations & Responsibilities

By joining Team Amy’s Angels, you are agreeing to be a part of something much bigger than yourself. You are agreeing to be a part of a team. A team that has a common goal of raising money to end breast cancer.

To do this, team members (both walkers and crew)hereby agree to the following expectations:

Enrollment into the Event
Walkers:
o Anyone who is agreeing to walk needs to be registered for the walk in the city that the team has agreed upon attending.
o Walkers are responsible for their own event registration costs.
o Walkers are encouraged to sign up for the walk at their earliest convenience to be able to fund raise in a timely fashion.

Crew:
o Anyone who is agreeing to crew needs to be registered for the event in the city that the team has agreed upon attending.
o Crew members are responsible for their own event registration costs.
o Crew members need to sign up early as crew spots are filled on a first-come-first-served basis, and are usually capped at 400.
o Crew members do not have to be doing the same job as other team members, it is up to the crew member as to their job choice.

Out of Pocket CostsWhen it comes to the event, be prepared for some additional out of pocket costs. These costs include, but are not limited too:
· Shoes (at least 1 pair, 2 pairs recommended)
· Wicking clothing (shirts, shorts, socks, etc)
· Fanny pack
· Water bottle
· Registration fee
· Money you are short in your minimum fundraising goal (walkers only)
· Crew team items (van decorations, costumes, theme items, etc)
· Transportation to the event (gas, air fare, etc) *
· Hotel costs *
· Meals (dinner on Thursday night & Sunday evening, etc)

Optional out of pocket costs include:
· Team t-shirts & sweatshirts
· Photobook from Shutterfly

*May be supplemented, in part, by the team account.

Fundraising
All walkers are required to raise a minimum amount of money to be able to participate in the 3-day. This minimum amount is determined by the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk. All walkers agree, when enrolling into the event, to raise this amount. Walkers who do not raise this minimum amount will either need to supplement the remaining funds out of pocket or forfeit the walk all together. **NOTE: Starting in 2012, all 3-day walkers must have their minimum fundraising total met before the walk starts, or else they will not be eligible to participate.

Crew members do not have a fundraising minimum amount, but are encouraged to fund raise.

There are two ways to help meet your fundraising goal: individual fundraising and team fundraising. Please Note: Individual fundraising should be your primary fundraising option. Team fundraising should not be considered the primary source of your fundraising. Team fundraisers can be cancelled at the last minute, and/or the expected amount could be much less than anticipated. Therefore, please do not count solely on team fundraising dollars.

Individual FundraisingAll walkers are expected to do the following in regards to their individual fundraising:
· Contact potential donors through e-mails and/or letter writing campaigns
· Make contact with potential donors on a reoccurring basis—often the intention to donate is there, but due to lack of follow up, donors forget. Therefore, multiple attempts may be needed.
· Send timely thank you’s to your donors when you receive a donation via e-mail (or via mail if no e-mail address is provided).
· Send the designed Team Thank You to all donors when the walk has finished (coordinated in advance by Amy or another team designate)

All crew members are expected to do the following in regards to fundraising, should they choose to fund raise.

Team Fundraising
All team members—walkers and crew—need to notify the Team Captain each year if they plan to participate in team fundraisers.

If a team member opts out of team fundraising, no funds from the team fundraising events will be deposited into their account.

Commitment to team fundraising does not require a team member to participate in all team fundraising events. Team members will pick which fundraisers they would like to be involved.

By participating in team fundraising, each team member will agree to help in the planning process of at least one of the following events:

Winter Cribbage Tournament
Spring Garage Sale
Summer BREAST Event & Pool Party

Planning process for each of these events includes, but is not limited too:
Securing the site for the event
Working with surrounding areas for publicity
Organizing all aspects of the event
Food, beverages, snacks
Entertainment (if applicable)
Delegation of responsibilities to those team members not planning, but participating in the event with specific details on what is expected of team members in order to have a successful event
Clean up, thank you cards, etc

It is important to note that team members organizing team fundraisers need to be clear and upfront about what they need from the team to make their event a success.

Team fundraisers are time consuming and can be stressful for those who are planning them. Therefore, those that are coordinating events need to meet as a group—well in advance—to start planning, brainstorming and organizing all aspects of the event. For example: if you have agreed to coordinate the garage sale, and you have gotten items, taken the day off work, made signs, and worked 12 hours a day during the sale, you would be upset if your partner or other event participants did not do the same amount of work--feelings could get hurt. To ensure this, team members need to have open and honest communication with one another. It is encouraged that all work is distributed evenly up front during the planning & brainstorming sessions so that it is felt that the funds are equally distributed.

Discretion on fund distribution will be used should a family or personal emergency take a participant out of the team fundraiser at the last minute.

Walkers who help with the planning & organizing of a team fundraiser will receive a full cut of the funds raised. A walker meeting the fundraising goal is first priority. All money will be directed towards walker accounts first before they are directed to a crew member’s account.

Online Silent AuctionThe Online Silent Auction is an event whose funds are split between walkers that are still short in their fundraising goal. Because of this, the auction requires everyone’s participation to make it a success. Each team member is encouraged to do the following:

Securing items for the auctionEach team member (walker & crew) are encouraged to secure 2 or more items of various values and tastes. Items can include: restaurant gift cards, craft items, sports tickets, etc.

Promotion of the event
E-mail or contact their donor list to share the information about the silent auction.

Money Raised During a Team FundraiserBecause of a generous contribution, currently all cash donations raised from team fundraisers, button sales and any other fundraising drive (online silent auction is not included), is matched 100% up to the first $2500.

This money is then deposited into each walkers account as agreed upon.

All money that is raised from the silent auction, because of how the money is collected (money is collected via check and credit card only, therefore, it must be deposited into participants 3-day accounts), will benefits all walkers first, then crew members. Money is divided based on need.

Training
All walkers are required to train for the event. It is an expectation that you will be prepared to walk at least 20 or more miles each day.

Therefore, walkers should be following the training guidelines and schedule that is provided to you in the walker handbook.

Traveling to the EventWalkers from similar areas are encouraged to drive together to the 3-day event as parking is limited and can be expensive.

Once opening ceremony details are announced (they change from year to year), an e-mail communication from the team captain or designate will ask the team what their plans are for arriving at the event, parking of cars during the weekend, and other travel-to-the-event information.

Please note: You will not have access to your car until after closing ceremonies on Sunday. Please plan accordingly.

Team Tenting
Out of convenience, and to get the full experience of the 3-day event, Team Amy’s Angels stays at camp in the provided accommodations.

Tents at camp are 6.5 ft by 6.5 ft. Because of this, sharing a space can be overwhelming. Therefore, the team will pair up with one another in logical pairings to make the accommodations more comfortable.

Because of the space in the tents, team members are encouraged to work with each other as to not double up on items that can ultimately be shared.

Crew members and walkers are not tented next to one another because of the early hours that are expected of the crew. Therefore, if a walker wants to tent with a crew member, they will not be in the walker area of camp—they will be in the crew area.

Team Hotel Accommodations on Thursday Evening
Due to the time that walkers and crew need to be at check in on Friday morning, Team Amy’s Angels will typically stay in a local hotel on Thursday evening.

Details for this hotel stay will come after the opening ceremonies events are announced.

Sometimes the cost for the hotel can be supplemented by the team account. This is done by donations from friends and family who have asked that their funds be applied towards miscellaneous expenses.

It is not required that a team member stays at the hotel the night before the event. Therefore, if anyone should decide to stay off site, it is their responsibility to make arrangements to arrive at the opening ceremonies on time.

Travel to the Opening Ceremonies
Depending on the hotel accommodations on Thursday night, travel to the ceremonies may be as simple as walking across the street, or driving across town.

Therefore, before the events, once opening ceremonies & hotel information is announced, the team will decide how they would like to arrive at opening ceremonies.

Pick Up of Cars & Gear After the EventWalkers and crew will have their luggage waiting for them in a holding area near the closing ceremonies site.

After the closing ceremonies, gear pick up can be congested. Therefore, it is best that if you have a friend, family member or loved one picking you up at the closing ceremonies, ask them to get your gear for you so that you can avoid this area.

If you are leaving your car at a 3-day approved car site, a shuttle will take you back to the car site. Shuttles are usually $20 (as of 2009) and need to be paid for in cash.

Team Thank You’sIt is proven that by receiving a thank you card, the likelihood of someone donating again is much greater than if you do not send a thank you card.

Each team member who receives a donation to their individual account is required to send out a thank you. This can be done via e-mail or through the mail. Thank you’s should be sent out in a timely fashion. You can set up your Participant Center on the 3-day site to send out e-mails automatically.

In addition to your own thank you’s, a team thank you card is sent out to each person who made a donation to our team (in money, product, time, etc). Team thank you’s are coordinated by Amy or a team designate. You will be asked to provide a list of names and addresses for the coordination of this effort.

Once the thank you’s have been ordered (purchased through the team account), all team members are asked to pick a night to write out their thank you’s as a group. If you are unable to come to the night picked by the group to write out your thank you’s, Amy will make arrangements to get those to you.

If you are interested in joining our team...we would love to have you! Here is what you need to know before you decide to join Amy's Angels.

If you are looking for insight on what to expect, we'll give you some of that--but the 60 Mile Men (a group of men who participate in breast cancer walks throughout the country) have created a document called, The Underground Guide to the 3-Day Walk. So, now that you've read the underground guide AND our expectations, you are still in it for the long haul, obviously! Here is what you can do to be a part of our team, Amy's Angels.

Be a walker....
Definition: a walker is just that--they walk the event. For 3 days, they will be walking 60 miles through cities, hiking trails, up hills, down hills, in the sun, in the rain. Unless a tornado is coming down the street, you will walk regardless of the weather.

Expectations: As a walker you need to train. Going into this with the attitude that it's "just" a walk, is unrealistic. You need to train and train consistently for months in advance. You can pretty much count on your summer being consumed with training for the walk.

You are also expected to raise at least $2300 to be able to walk in the event. By signing up you commit to raising that amount of money. If you don't raise the funds, you do not walk.

Overall, this is by far the most rewarding way that you can be involved in the 3-day.

Be a Crew Member...
Definition: a crew member is someone who is basically the muscle and the brains of the operation. From kitchen staff & toilet paper stockers in the porta potties, to van drivers and medical staff....the list is long and endless.

Expectation: Crew members need to be available for Crew Day the Thursday before the event for team training and team bonding. You will work long hours and will be tenting away from the walker population. You may not ever see the team of walkers, and if you do, it may be very early in the morning or very late at night. You also need to prepared for eating lunch on the go and being up for "other duties as assigned" on a regular basis.

Crew members do not have the expectation of raising money, but are strongly encouraged to do so. As a team, we expect crew members to help out with fundraising as much as possible.

Overall, if you are able to give 4 days with a smile on your face all day, every day, then this is the job for you.

Be a Volunteer...
Definition: While all positions at the 3-day are volunteer, a 3-day volunteer is someone who gives one day of their time to help out in some capacity.

Expectation: Volunteers will give one day of their time to help with some aspect of the 3-day. It might be working at check in, the camp store, or helping a walker locate their gear at the end of the walk.

Overall, this is a great option if someone wants to be a part of the event, but cannot give the full 3 or 4 days as the other ways to participate.

Be a Walker Stalker....
Definition: Maybe you want to be on the route, but more than just at a cheering station. You can stalk the route and cheer the walkers on when they need it most.

Expectation: Walker Stalkers will be coordinated in advance and will be looking at anywhere from a 1-3 day commitment. It is best to be a walker stalker in a city where you are comfortable driving, and have connections to a Route Safety or Sweep Van crew member (so you can see maps of the route).

Be prepared to have your photo taken. Be prepared to have people hand you trash. Be prepared for people to ask you, "....how much farther...."

Overall, the walker stalker is a fun way to be a part of the event, without having to pay an entrance fee.

How to sign up as a Walker or Crew member:
1. If you are interested in being a part of Amy's Angels, please contact your favorite team member, or our team e-mail at amysangels3day@gmail.com
2. Decide what you'd like to do: walker or crew.
3. Go to the 3-day site: www.the3day.org and click to link to sign up for the upcoming event
4. When prompted, click the option to "join a team"
5. Enter our team name in the search window--Amy's Angels (don't forget the apostrophe!)
6. Click the link that says "Register as a Team Member"
7. Pick your option: walker or crew
8. If you register before November 23, 2009, you can use the discount code POWER10 and pay $55 rather than $90 for your entrance fee
9. If you are a new member of our team, pick "new participant" on the next screen
10. Enter your contact information and follow the prompts to the end--including your credit card information to pay the registration fee.

Congratulations! You are now a member of Amy's Angels!

How to sign up to be a volunteer...
At this time, volunteer opportunities are not listed on the 3-day site for 2010 and will not be posted until winter 2010.

However, if you are interested in volunteering, please make a note to check back to the 3-day site to sign up.

While our team began in 2008, the story of how we came to be begins in the fall of 2007.

In September 2007, a lump was discovered in Amy's breast during a routine physical. After ultra sounds, biopsies and tests, it was determined that Amy had Stage 2 Breast Cancer.

Amy was 33 at the time of diagnosis.

In early 2008, Amy's sister-in-law Pam came for a visit and in chatting with Amy asked if she could do something in Amy's honor. To raise money and awareness of this disease, Pam wanted to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-day Walk which benefits Susan G Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust.

After an informational meeting, e-mails and lots of conversation, by spring 2008 12 women had committed to walking 60 miles over 3 days.

One of those 12 women, was Amy herself. By this point, Amy's treatments (4 rounds of chemo and 33 rounds of radiation) were over and she was given the all clear--not only to participate, but health wise. She was showing no evidence of disease.

We needed a team name and after much deliberation (OK....not much at all...), we decided on Amy's Angels. Amy always felt that she was (and still is) surrounded by angels. It only made sense that we name the team as we did.

Now, 2 events later, and over $40,000 raised, we are going strong and have no intention of stopping now!

There are many ways that you can donate to Amy's Angels in support of the Breast Cancer 3-day--which benefits Susan G Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust.

Donate Money to a Walker
Over on the left, you'll see our current roster of our team. Click their name and it will take you to their donation page on the 3-day site. From there you can either donate online or you can print their donation form and mail it into the 3-day office.

Donate Money to a Fundraising Event
If you don't necessarily mind which walker gets your donation, consider making a donation to a fundraiser. You can do so by making a donation on the day of the event. If you make a donation to us in cash, we will then take your donation and match it (which will double your donation)!

Please note that an official tax deductible receipt for your donation is available only by making a check out to the Breast Cancer 3-day or making a donation online to a specific walker's account.

If you do not need a receipt, cash donations are acceptable.

To be a part of the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, all walkers must raise a minimum amount of money in order to walk in the event(currently $2300 as of 2009). Walkers are required to do their own individual fundraising. Amy's Angels helps out walkers on the team with their fundraising by holding 4 team fundraising events each year.

Due to time, and a need for creativity (as our team is spread out between Minnesota and North Dakota), our team currently holds 4 fundraisers a year.
